These are so precious, I couldn't resist them. Tiny handpainted chalkware or white clay from 1970's era Mexico, the faces and the decorative gold designs on these creche figurines are superb! Typically Mexican style, Joseph holds a gold sombrero at his side and a metal shepard's crook; Mary clasps her gold serape, the King dressed in royal robes brings a gift of gold and the little peasant boy kneels in his simple clothes over his basket of loaves of bread (my interpretation). Baby Jesus rests in his straw manger. He is swaddled in gold and his halo is made of little gold painted metal rods. The painted designs are beautiful. The King is tallest at 4" and baby Jesus is only 2" to top of his halo. They are in "just bought" condition, no chips or wear. What a wonderful little indiginous group representing Mexican folklore and their story of the birth of Cristo.
