Ever print a design (like a phone holder or a base with a stand) and then the pieces fit loose?
The materials we use - even the most premium have variance in thickness from sheet to sheet.
Home Depot PureBond is not even close to 1/4" even though it is marketed as such.
This hard truth has us wasting time, money, masking, 3M adhesive, Gorilla Tape, Wood, Acrylic - all while adding wear and tear to our machines.
This file will pay for itself the very next file that you design, or product you produce. It is a tool every laser owner should have as a resource.
Everything you need to know: https://laserlightdesigns.com/kerf-tool
This file actually includes 120+ SVG files - so you can print the one you prefer, or that fits your intended use!
These guides go in increments of 0.001 in inches or in increments of ~0.025mm, so you can control the exact fit and how snug assembly will be.

We recommend "scoring" the text on this design, not engraving it.
This vastly reduces the time needed to print this file. When you score, it will not have favorable results if it passes over the GF proof grade material QR code sticker or any additional labels, or stickers. Try to avoid scoring over these labels. These labels do not affect any cut lines of this design.

What does kerf mean? The laser burns away a portion of material when it cuts through. This is known as the laser kerf and ranges from 0.08mm – 1mm depending on the material type and other conditional factors. Kerf can be different from machine to machine, and even change on the same machine over time and use. This is why your designs don't always fit well when you go to assemble them.
Please Note:
- Please keep in mind that all lasers are different - even those within the same model/brand.
- Please keep in mind that all materials are different - even those within the same supplier.
- Always cut a small test piece when using a new material to you, to dial in your settings.
- Even when measuring your material, know that the thickness may vary slightly on that same piece.
- Measure a few spots to find a good average, if possible
- You may need to cut a new "Fit Guide" on your machine after extensive use, aggressive cleaning/calibration,
or anything else that could affect Kerf on your machine - or if your physical fit guide becomes worn from use.
-When you score, it will not have favorable results if it passes over the GF Proof grade
Material QR code description box. Try to avoid scoring over this label. This label does not affect any cut lines of this design.
