Rackliffe Pottery blueberry top jam pot and saucer. The deep blue glaze color of the ribbed jam pot is called "Blue Hill Blue" and it is applied over local red marine clay. It is lead free. The lipped lid is white and has a cluster of three blueberries and leaves on top that were handmade. The saucer is also white and is 5 inches in diameter. The lid is signed "Rackliffe" on the underside. The blue base and white saucer are both signed "Rackliffe Blue Hill Me" on the bottom. The jam pot is about 3 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide.

All Rackliffe pots are fired to 2100 degrees and then slowly cooled to give them greater durability than other earthenware pottery. The founder of this studio, Phil Rackliffe, worked at Rowantrees Pottery for 20 years before starting his own studio in 1969. Rackliffe Pottery is still an active family business in Blue Hill, Maine.

I usually have other pieces of vintage Rackliffe and/or Rowantrees pottery in the shop. It is something I always look for at local estate sales so check back often.
