I created this composition to honor my home state, California, and its state insect. The illustration includes a detailed pen drawing of both a male and female dogface butterfly, with overlapping wings, painted with yellow, purple, and black India inks. The butterflies are surrounded by a gold circle, painted with gold acrylic artists ink. The entire piece explores the eternally symbiotic nature of male and female relationships and the fluid spectrum of gender expression. The composition speaks to both my feminist ideals and Christian faith.
