Beautiful wool in a fine houndstooth pattern of black and ivory with just a touch of red, it is fully lined with silk. The quality of the fabric is also outstanding. Other indications of quality are the bound buttonholes (even the buttons on the sleeves are functional and have bound buttonholes) - the openings of the pockets under the flaps are also bound - and there are small attached pieces of velcro hidden under the collar with corresponding pieces on the matching scarf so that you don't have to worry about the scarf falling off if you choose to wear it, but the velcro won't show if you choose not to. The scarf is hand-fringed at both ends.
The front closure of the jacket is an interesting twist on a double breasted jacket. There are two vertical rows of buttons, but there is a hidden placket behind the opening that allows each row to be on one side of the opening, so that the opening still runs down the center of the jacket.
It has subtle shoulder pads to keep the shape looking really crisp.
There is a small black velvet collar with matching velvet pocket flaps at the hips.
Measurements were taken with the garment laying flat and doubled where appropriate.
Bust 35" - waist 33" - hip 37.5" - shoulder to shoulder 15.5" (with shoulder pads) - sleeves 22.25" - length measured from bottom of collar to hem in back 22"
