Profile: Olivetti-Underwood Studio 44

Olivetti was founded in Turin, Italy 1908 as a typewriter manufacturer.

It opened its first manufacturing facility overseas in 1930 and merged with typewriter manufacturer Underwood in 1963, after purchasing the company in 1959.

In recent years the company has become known for its computers and printers.

It is currently owned by Telecom Italia. The Studio 44 models were produced in large numbers in the 1950s and 1960s -- popular with collectors, notably made famous by writer Tennessee Williams. The first version was made during 1952 and 1953. The “New Series” was produced between 1965 and 1967, under the Olivetti-Underwood name.

What a wonderful and unique shop! A great source for the "type" of things it specializes in! I knew beforehand that I would love these beautiful, functional, versatile, new-old-stock book stands, so I snatched them all up! I would advise others to do some snatching, too! Great communication with shop owner! Very carefully packed! Shipped right away!
