This is a beautiful ancient sterling silver amulet pendant of the side-by-side footprints of a standing diety, generally termed sripada (divine footprints) and worn by a wide Hindu audience, especially in northern India.

It is in the rectangular form symbolic of a house plan, and family unity, and die-stamped with three sturdy bales. The amulet has not been cleaned, but will polish up beautifully.

It has five sets of small solid bells (ghungrus) attached to the bottom border and sides. The bell rings have been covered by cotton being wrapped around the rings. I have not removed the cotton as I have seen many examples of this practice on Rajasthani amulets. Please see listing photos.

The subject of the amulet is Vishnu's footprints (Vishnupadaka) with a cusped arch, under a honorific umbrella. A sacred, powerful charm, it is believed to offer the wearer protection against all calamities.

The amulet has been hung on a new black Indian traditional handmade cotton thread cord with a looped end for closing.
