Antique non-working Swiss silver pocket watch, circa 1880s. This beautiful piece measures 28mm in diameter and features an enameled white porcelain-like dial with lovely black roman numerals. The metal case has a subtle pattern around the front border and a gorgeous leafy etched design on back with the same outer pattern. The back opens up with the help of a slight ridge in the metal (see 3rd photo) and reveals monogrammed initials on one side and maker's marks on the backside of the lid (see 4th photo). The marks include "0.935" for 935 silver (higher grade than sterling), the image of an upright bear which is a Swiss hallmark used between 1882-1934, the serial number "109438" and what appears to be a fancy letter "J." According to my research the "J" was used to represent "Le Noirmont" a Swiss French-speaking municipality where the watch was most likely made. The monogrammed area is actually a second lid which opens to reveal the same markings on the inside with the addition of "SWISS" at the bottom. The movement looks fairly clean inside, no idea if it is complete. The only marking is "avance" and "retard" (French for "advance" and "delay"). The main outer lid shuts quietly and stays in place, but does not click closed completely. There is a brass winding knob at the top with the pocket watch loop. This piece is very old and it shows. The dial is in very good condition, but both hands and the crystal (glass cover) are missing from the front. The silver is tarnished with slight scratches and dings. There are a couple slight dents around the side of the metal, nothing major but worth mentioning. This is a one of a kind piece here at Treasure Booth :)
