A 12in. 1950 Illuminated Crams Unrivaled Terrestrial Globe by the George F. Cram Co.

A post WW2 globe that represents a time in history that witnesses the dawn of the Cold War and the founding of NATO. An impressive illuminated globe with green oceans mounted on a more simplified wood base that accomodates an atlas. Unfortunately the atlas is not available for this globe.

Illuminated glass globes offer us an artisticly enhanced view of our world while providing a soft radiance, clearly revealing the smallest detail of the globe. Given the nature of glass many of these superb globes have not prevailed the ages. Hand blown orbs were masterfully created with each map gore applied by hand. By the late 50's with the revolution of plastics, globe manufacturers desiring a more economical and durable product began using plastic in lieu of glass.

The Political borders displayed include; Indochina (no longer French), Thailand (changed from Siam 1949), East & West Pakistan 1947, Israel (created in 1948), Libya is yet to gain it's independence from Italy (will become independent in 1951)

The condition of the globe is very good with some minor gore lifting and two pinpoints of loss as well as two other very small areas of loss. As in all vintage globes there is minor soiling and some small minor scuffing towards the top of the globe with no loss but lightening of map. The wood base is free of chips, water damage or staining and is in very good condition.
