This cremation urn was handmade on the potters wheel by Diann Adams of Massillon, Ohio. It has undergone a special firing process called Saggar Firing (aka, alternative firing, Raku).
Once the piece is burnished and bisque fired it is covered with oxides, organic materials like seaweed, hemp, salts from the seas, copper, and ferric chloride. The piece is then wrapped in an aluminum saggar and fired in a Raku kiln.
As the organics burn off they fume the clay creating wonderful patterns of color. The piece is then sealed with an acrylic sealer. The top is embellished with a torquoise bead and copper wire for good luck.
This truely is a work of natural art. It can take center stage in any room or be the resting place for a special pet or part of a shared loved one. Clay and ashes were meant to be together.
Saggar fired pieces are not waterproof nor foodsafe.
This piece is approximately 5.75"h X 7"w.
