This superb, rare mid century, 1930's Blue Bird Harry Vincent Toffee Tin is 5 3/4" x 4 2/8," and is 1 1/4" from the bottom to the top of its still-working lid.

The tin depicts two happily fat birds perched on a branch. The colors are still incredibly vibrant, and save for a few very small dings in the lid (magnified by the camera flash), this tin is in excellent vintage condition.

On the front, below the lid and on the body of the tin on both sides, is written: "Take the Home Sweet Home," (see photo 4), and there are the signature Blue Bird bluebirds flying at the sides. One of the tin's end sides says, "BLUE BIRD TOFFEE, Made in England:" the other says, "Harry Vincent, Ltd. Hunnington, Worcestershire, England."

The lid of this lovely piece of art fits nicely and comes off with ease, revealing the interior (see photo 3) which is in reasonably good shape for a vintage item over eighty years old.

Made in England, this tin is a wonderful example of the kind of "art" and craftsmanship that went into the making of what were, basically, advertising tins: if you were attracted to the image, the thinking went (and still does!), you'd buy the toffee.

I wonder if the beauty of this wonderful artwork was appreciated as much as the toffee was!

A truly marvelous vintage tin!
