One of my favorite things! A beautiful early handmade oval box with a wonderful painting of a gentleman dressed in his finest attire with a large needle in hand. I believe it is maple or similar tight grained wood. Long ago, it was delicately handmade with tiny square nails around box bottom and on top edge of the lid. The two fingers that wrap around the box and the one on the lid are secured with finished brass or copper tacks that have a dark patina. On the bottom of the box is written "shaker sewing box". I bought this many years ago from an antiques dealer that had old primitives.

The box is in overall excellent condition. There are a few areas where the wood is scratched and the finish has normal wear and patina associated with an item of this age. Very charming, yet solid and well constructed. I left the finish as is, without putting anything on wood to enhance it, but could be done to bring out its beauty further.

It is small and measures 6" in length, 3 7/8" wide, a little over 2 3/4" tall.

Shipping: USPS First Class, includes insurance with delivery confirmation.
