Dutch Wooden Shoe, Windmill Painting, with 10 wooden clothespins, take me for a ride in your shoe, shoe. Lovely old Wooden shoe has a cheerful yellow varnish over a lively painting of windmill with red sails (struts?) turning through a flock of birds. A road runs down the foreground to the front of the shoe - there is something very pleasing about the fact that the painting is not just ON the shoe, but actually matches its topography. The shoe is 7 inches long, and came from Volendam, as you can see by the writing on its side in the third photo. The inside of the shoe is painted with gesso or some sort of chalky white paint. There is a hole on one side (first photo), perhaps that means it was once part of a pair.
