Rare Opal Jasper Bib Collar Necklace with Graduated Fan Focal and Genuine Turquoise in Sterling Silver

Real Turquoise beaded necklace featuring an extremely rare Opal Jasper graduated fan focal in rich earthy colors, for the woman seeking unusual gemstones to add to her jewelry collection.

These Opal Jasper stones are some of the most beautiful gemstones I have ever seen. The earthy tones of moss green, turquoise, and aqua blue contain iridescent bands of opal that are clearly visible to the naked eye. There are 11 pieces of Opal Jasper in the focal, varying from 1/2" in length to 1.5". I chose 5mm Turquoise gemstones for the necklace because they match the tones in the focal perfectly. I selected Opal Jasper rounds in moss green to accent the Turquoise and bring out the green tones in the focal. Sterling Silver decorative tube beads add the finishing touch.

Necklace measures 16" (40.6 cm) without the focal, which adds 1.5" at the longest point.
Finished with a Sterling Silver toggle clasp.

********** The Story
behind this fan focal......I saw it several months ago at my local bead shop and immediately fell in love with it. The shop owner, who has been in the gemstone business for over 50 years was not able to tell me what these stones were. I asked him to hold the piece for me until I was able to identify the stones. Every now and then, I would have him bring the focal out for me to look at. Finally, I couldn't stand it. I had to take it home.

I researched the stones and was amazed to find out that they are. From a gemstone website: "These are essentially brecciated jaspers, but the layers are bound together by opal instead. These are rare and hard to find."

I returned to the bead store, told the owner what I had discovered, and he agreed. What had him stumped were the flashes of opal in the stones. In his 50+ years of travelling all over the world for beads, he had never seen this species of stone.

This handmade necklace is a rare find, and would make a beautiful addition to any jewelry collection. The rich earthy colors and the tribal appeal can be worn with almost anything in your wardrobe. It's perfect for casual, everyday, or at the office. Be prepared for the stares you will receive when you wear this stunning design!
