Peridot belongs to mineral series, which is part of the olivine group. Its color comes from the basic chemical composition of the mineral itself, not from minor impurities. So it is a gemstones with only one color, the green. It vary of light green to olive-green. It depends on how much iron is contained in the crystal structure. Peridot is a well-known and ancient gemstone. Peridot is both a day stone and a night stone. Peridot is the birthstone of August.
