Beautiful wheel thrown and hand altered white crackle bowl. The crackle and crazing lines on this piece are wonderful.

The Raku process is one of the most exciting and unpredictable of all the firing processes. Pieces are created, dried, and bisque fired like all standard pottery, I glaze with a Raku Glaze and the magic happens after the second firing. When the glazed piece reaches between 1750-1800 degrees it is taken out of the kiln very quickly and placed into a reduction chamber (mine is a 5 gallon trash can) lined with newspaper. The newspaper instantly bursts into flames and the container is sealed to reduce oxygen forcing the carbon into the pot, making the clay a nice deep black. Each piece is hand made and because of the chemical reaction between the temperature, newspaper, glaze, and clay every piece is guaranteed to be one of a kind.

::::Raku should be used for decorative purposes only as the pot is porous. Exposure to UV rays can alter the color the same as it effects most materials. Care for raku with water and a soft brush to remove dust:::::
