These 11 sheets of vintage paper are one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. They come from the estate sale of a military officer who was in Japan in the late 1940s. He'd also lived there in the 1930s so I can't be sure of the date of these. They measure 6 1/2 '' X 9 1/2''. The top surface is shaved micro-thin wood, not a true paper. You can see and feel the wood grain. Looking through a magnifying glass is just wonderful! The reverse side is simple beige tissue weight paper with age-darkened edges. The two layers together are still thinner than ordinary typing paper. They are a very fragile and brittle, even flaking a little along the edges. The simple pale green bamboo printed on one border is fitting since the wood probably is bamboo.
