Snow covers the ground and we still gaze out of ice-frosted windows; winter still reigns. Yet each day the sun grows stronger and under the frozen ground, the tender spears of spring flowers start to grow. Imbolc is near. Also known as Candlemas, the Feast of Lights and the Festival of Brighid; also called Brigid, Brigit, Bridget, Brigid, and Brid. Decorate your altar or home for this celebration with this altar tile pyrographed with Brighid’s Knot, a tribute to her three attributes. She is the Goddess of metal-smithing and craftsmanship; Goddess of healing, fertility, family, and childbirth; and Goddess of poetry, wisdom, and culture. The triangular knot points down to depict the feminine. Young flowers, circling the knot, symbolize the coming Spring as they reach for the light of inspiration, knowledge and healing Brighid brings.

Made of birch, the tile is four inches in diameter. The design was hand drawn, transferred to the wood and burned in by hand using a pyrography pen. Imbolc was burned on the bottom along with the date of this festival. A pink border was floated around the perimeter and the entire tile was stained with Golden Pecan then rubbed with several coats of paste wax for a silky satin finish.

Included is a wood easel for display and a sampler vial of Brigid oil, a sweet blend of floral essential oils with just a hint of winter spice, mixed together with jojoba; a nice compliment to your Imbolc ritual.

*Disclaimer: Essential oils can be irritating to the skin; it is best to test on a small area first.

My hope is to make tiles for each Sabbat; at least two different designs. Although I have designs drawn out, am out of wood right now. But keep an eye out for new designs for the other 7 Sabbats.
