Octopi are some of the most clever creatures! They can open jars, wind their way through mazes faster than rats and solve all manner of problems. Their image was once used as amulets for safe travel across the sea. I made this little baby octopi set with garnet cabchons and small loops for dangling crystals and pearls, in the Elizbethan style ( it was popular to carve small animals in jewelry with small loops as though they were holding gems).

This pendant is handcarved from wax, then cast in shibuichi by my husband Greg, using the lost wax casting method. Shibuichi is an ancient Japanese alloy (metal mixture) made by melting silver and copper together in the crucible. It was traditionally used as sword guards on kitanas since its incredibly durable, but holds amazing detail. Shibuichi has a wonderful range of colors, from deep burgundy to nut brown, with the polished color being a lovely light peach. All metals, with the exception of gold, change over time and exposure to the elements, this piece will change as its worn, gaining shiny spots from clothh rubbing, or darkening from being in the shower. To prevent the surface from changing, spray with varnish, or leave it and allow it to change, cleaning it with a soft cloth once and awhile.

Note: All of our items are hand crafted from the finest materials available. It is our wish to create goods that will last several lifetimes and be cherished by our great grand kids! Also be aware that each piece is made by hand, meaning little differences may occur, like a tiny air bubble or seam line may be visible. These variances should not be viewed as flaws, but as evidence they are a handmade product.

This piece measures 22 mm tall by 12 mm wide. Thanks for looking!
