This beautiful purse not only has style to it it has a good name too! Whiting and Davis was founded in 1876 in Massachusetts and was known for it's fashinable and high quality mesh handbags. The first mesh handbag was created by Mr. Davis in 1892,
In 1907 Charles Whiting became sole owner of the company. Seeking a faster more efficient method of manufacturing mesh, Mr. Whiting enlisted the help of A.C. Prat, who, in 1912, designed the world’s first automatic mesh machine. In a very short time, Whiting & Davis had taken center stage in the world of handbag fashion. The Whiting and Davis Company is still in exhistancer but their focus is on Jewelry.
This purse is 6 3/4 inches long (including decorative bottom edge) by 3 1/2 inches wide. The chain handle is 5 1/2 inches long. Like the other chain bag at the hinges it is not connected as visible in the pictures. This is a wonderful example of chainmaille purses from the early 1900's and would make a good piece to add to your collection!
