Moving quickly over the former Western Pacific Railroad mainline at Hearst Siding, near Sunol, California, Altamont Commuter Express train No. 4 is carrying commuters home from San Jose to Tracy and Stockton. This beautiful fall afternoon on September 31, 2009, was a crystal-clear, "blue dome sky" day (as we photographers call it occasionally) and the large trees and typical California golden grasses cried for black-and-white film for this view. This route carries Union Pacific Railroad intermodal and heavy symbol freight trains up and over Altamont Pass and connects to the former Southern Pacific at Niles, California, along a short and steep route down through fabled Niles Canyon known for decades as the route of the WP's "California Zephyr" premier passenger train.

This is the matted and mounted print, signed and numbered by the photographer. See a separate listing for this image, fully framed and ready to hang in your home. Dimensions refer to the finished matte outer dimensions.

Prints can be ordered and shipped or picked up locally at my gallery north of Boston, right along the seacoast. Shipping costs shown below include insurance and USPS Priority Mail, to the US Midwest, as an average of current charges. Shipping to an address on the East Coast will be less expensive and I will credit you for the difference from the price quoted (Etsy doesn't give us any other way to handle this, that I have been able to find).

All printing is done individually with archival inks and fine printing papers; the matting and mounting is also done with archival materials by an excellent local professional local frame shop, Post Road Framers.

The image shown on this page is compressed for web viewing and is of reduced resolution with a copyright watermark. The fine art photograph that you will receive is very sharp and printed individually per order, without any watermark. The image is copyright protected by the photographer, Dave Saums.

Sizes Available, Professionally Printed and Matted Fine Art Original Photograph:
16" x 20" $ 125.00
20" x 24" (Custom order; please contact me)

Larger sizes up to 30" in one frame or matte dimension may be custom ordered. Please note that shipping charges now are based on weight and carton dimensions and shipping must be quoted per request for larger size prints. I package all photographs myself, for shipping. Please call or email to order sizes larger than the 16"x20 finished and matted print listed here.

Prints are signed, titled, and dated in pencil in the lower border. All prints are numbered in a limited series, as one would expect in any art gallery. Prices in this listing are for a matted photograph, ready to be framed to be hung in your home or office, just as I would do in mine.

Many more images may be seen at my gallery, Mountains-of-the-Sky Photography Gallery, at 14 Cedar Street, Studio 111, in Amesbury MA. Photographic images include lighthouses, barns, landscapes, railroads, local New England scenes, and landscapes from Yosemite, England, Canada, as well as across the United States. I am located in a wonderful old 1871 brick mill building, where carriages were built in the fourth quarter of the nineteenth century and up into the late 'teens in the twentieth. This fine building is near the center of downtown Amesbury and contains dozens of artists and art-related studios and businesses. See my website for hours: www.mountainsofthesky.com; please call or email before planning to visit.
