Antique Emerald Brooch Maltese Cross Chatelaine
(Chatelaine- woman's ornamental clasp at waist for keys or purse; decorative chain suspended between two points)
Stunning chatelaine made of emerald green rhinestones, freshwater pearls, emerald green glass cabochon, and gold plated or filled metal (not tested).
A double strand chain connects the two pins and you can wear it however you wish, with either piece on top. Rhinestones are placed pave style next to intricate braiding and filigree work on the metal itself. Backside has no signature, however, it does have small x's carved down the length of the sword shaped pin.
A chatelaine was used in the early 1900s, you could hang stuff from the chains, like sewing stuff (small scissors, needle cases, little eyeglasses, etc). This is likely Victorian revival, 1950s or 60s, when there was a resurgence in this type of jewelry
This is an EXQUISITE piece of craftsmanship and commands attention. You will want to look at it again and again.
