These cufflinks are completely one of a kind! They were made from tobacco tags from September 1878 with a filigree backing. They are mounted on gold plated cufflinks. These measure 3/4" x 1 3/8".

Tobacco used to be sold in huge 'twists' unlike tobacco today. Tobacco tags were attached to the tobacco to keep the 'twists' from unraveling. People collected these tags because they could be exchanged for goods. For example, a man could collect 500 tags and exchange them in for a silverware set for his wife. These tags were only in existence from the late 1800s to the 1920s so these are old!

This would make an awesome gift for anyone into tobacco, cigars or history! This is my last pair of this type of cufflinks as they are so rare!
