1937 1st Issue of the French Art Magazine. Lithographs, Photographs and Articles by a Astounding List of Contributing Artists, Writers, Sculptors...Miro, Matisse, Man Ray, Leger, Malraux, Blumenfeld... John Russell's 1988 review in the New York Times (for the 50th Anniversary Edition Celebration Book): "Verve... was conceived as a work of art in its own right...".

Publishers weekly described the content span of Verve, "Alongside art by Braque, Picasso, Bonnard, Matisse, Kandinsky, Miro, Giacometti, Leger and Masson, we find medieval manuscript illuminations, old Japanese photos, essays by Gide, Camus, Malraux, Henri Michaux, James Joyce, Pierre Reverdy. So much brilliance dazzles." which has been referred to as "the most beautiful magazine on earth." by a avid supporter. Library Journal describes Verve, "Dazzling to the eye, the quarterly journal Verve brilliantly documented Modern Art as a lively event in France from 1937 to 1960." Mesmerizing to think of the artists who personally helped create and involved.

English Edition of the Premiere December 1937 Paris France Publication. E. Teriade Editor.

Condition: Pages are loose from the spine, can be professionally reglued reattached if desired. Pages are attached together with cotton string binding, the first two pages are the somewhat loose the others are holding together fine. Interior pages has no damage, rips or tears. There is some understandable age toning/tanning, mostly uniform. A few of the pages may have a few small foxing spots, however the majority of the pages are clear. Graphics and print is clean and clear condition. The lithographs and helio are in fine condition suitable for framing. Cover page has some slight scuffs and right middle side tear-fortunately tear lays flat and less noticable. Some corner and edge rubs but overall in good condition.

This is such a valuable and difficult to describe item. The beauty, rarity, the stunning glimpse into the dynamic time of 1900's art history most would agree seems unparalleled by any publication--this publication is a "work of art ".
