One Saturday morning many years ago, while eating cereal at the kitchen table with my friend Mary Jewel, her mother came into the kitchen and poured herself a bourbon and water. "What you gals got goin' on today?" she said in her Arkansas accent. Mary Jewel and I had been plotting to join the Green Berets but somehow we didn't think her mother would cotton to this, so one of us just said, "Probably just go explorin' in the woods." In those days, there were woods that grew up around houses. "Uh-huh," said her mother who then took a thoughtful sip from her glass. We ate in silence until we heard her mother turn on the faucet. "Well, ya'll know," she said, rinsing out her glass, "A lady never leaves the house without her girdle on." She shook the water from the glass, set it on the drainboard and left the room.

This was my mother's, not my neighbor's, corset. Later it was mine. It is really something I haven't been able to part with until now because it's so happy making. Just looking at it brings all kinds of wonderful ideas.
Made in U.S.A. Labels say "Warner's Merry Widow - Antron Lycra - 32" It's a small size, cup A or B, I would say (I was never less that a B myself), and all the hooks, clasps, and zippers still work fine and are well sewn in. The waist measures 24 inches. The only "wear" that is notable is the stuffing in the cup, which is, well, kind of shot, and the elastic in the back panels looks shot also, even though the elastic is still able to do its job. You can wear this, in other words; it won't fall apart. I might suggest special occasions only, or perhaps for photo opportunities. It might just look great hanging on your wall. But maybe I should stop with the suggestions.
