Decorative Bowl: Victorian Inspired: Arsenic: Poison

Upcycled. Decorative Sugar Bowl. Vintage.

This adorable little sugar bowl has been hand painted. Use it to store any special little items or just to keep around the house as a little decorative reminder of the golden age of poisoners!

The Victorian era is generally regarded as the heyday of murder by poison. Indeed, it is the period from which many of the world's most notorious poisoners hail. While people who poisoned for personal gain are to be found through the ages, now that poison was readily available to commoners, potential poisoners now had a new incentive: life insurance. The Arsenic Act of 1851 had to be introduced to bring the crime under control!

In addition to its darker purposes, arsenic was also used by ladies as a beauty product. They would ingest the poison in small doses in an attempt to pale their skin for a dainty and "faint" look.

Allow for artist brushstrokes as "Arsenic" has been hand painted in black fancy script - it has been sealed with heat for longevity and can be hand washed.
