This piece is near and dear to my heart and my most challenging to date. I currently have it handing in my kitchen window here I enjoy it every morning.
One of the interesting things about this piece is that I used negative space as a design element in this pattern. I designed a birdhouse the way the birds do with natural gaps and holes between the twigs. There are 10 open spaces in this panel. To be able to do that without compromising the strength of the panel was challenge that I finally solved! Internal reinforcements made this possible ( which added to the complexity of the design). So that being said you can see why I am very proud of this particular piece of art work.
I used brightly colored and boldly textured feathers for the roof and a german artique glass for the brown and trees of the twigs and leaves. It is a thick, old and very rare hand rolled glass. I played off of the way it already looked distressed. Including the two agate stones to look like the holes of the house were a challenge unto themselves but I knew that they belonged in the design and I found a way to do that.
So weather your a nature lover or bird person or just simply enjoy glass art I hope that this grabs your interest.
For me the passion is in the process, I will keep it hanging in my kitchen for safe keeping until someone finds a permanent home for it. For me all the fun is in the challenge, drawing the pattern, cutting the glass, seeing if it is possible or not. Parting with it after that, as long as I know it is appreciated, is okay by me.
This pattern was drawn by me Tammy Zehner and is protected under the name Whirl Girl Glass so please don't attempt to use it without permission. This truly is a one of a kind piece. On the lover left corner it is signed and dated by me.
The piece measures 8 x11 inches from the tip of the glass at the top to the bottom, it has a wire attached for hanging that cab be shortened or taken off if need be.
I was recently given the honor to be included in the SRA Self representing Artists group. I am a proud member and my number is #Z19 Thanks for your time and I hope someone will realize how rare and beautiful this piece is and will enjoy it for an eternity. If you have any questions please ask.
This piece will be sent priority mail with insurance when it is shipped, no exceptions. I refuse to take any chance with this piece of art. The insurance will be included in the shipping price.
Thank you for looking at my work.
