These irregular wire spheres were made from vintage dairy farm fencing that is well over 50 years old. The milkers are long gone now, but the farm still stands down in the hollow about a mile from our home.

I found the wire settling into a muddy bank in one of the farm's old abandoned fields, and as I washed the wire it smelled of earth and decaying vegetation. I formed these spheres bending the wire carefully by hand since the wire is fragile from years of weathering out in the fields. As I added each piece of wire, I bent the pieces to interlock with each other forming a more compact piece.

The largest sphere measures 3 1/2" by 3 1/2", the medium is approximately 3" by 3 1/2", and the smallest measures 1 3/4" by 2". The largest and smallest spheres are made from regular rectangular knotted vintage farm fencing, and the medium sphere is made from vintage barbed wire farm fencing. Display on a shelf as interesting industrial decor, or in an old basket or pottery bowl. If used outdoors the spheres will continue to rust since they do not have a protective coating.

NOTE: Even though I have bent the barbs forward to prevent scratching, please handle with care as some of the points are still fairly sharp.
