This beautiful antique ironstone pitcher is in The Hansa pattern by Alfred Meakin, an English pottery company founded in 1847 in Stoke-on-Trent. The pitcher is bright white with a wide gold stripe and green interlocking chain around the rim. There are also some partially worn gold designs on the handle. This would be a charming addition to your ironstone collection, but sturdy enough for use.

The pitcher is marked on the bottom, The Hansa, Alfred Meakin, England, with a crown logo. I'm not sure of its age, but I believe it's from the 1800s. In its early years Alfred Meakin produced ironstone and granite ware pieces that were often sold in the United States by mail order. From 1913 to 1976, the company was known as Alfred Meakin (Tunstall) Ltd., so I assume this pitcher predates that.

The pitcher is in very good condition for its age, with no chips or cracks. The gold and green decorations show very little wear. You can see that there once was a thinner gold stripe around the rim, and much of it has worn away. The handle is little rough and with a lot of wear to the gold where one would hold it, but it's still sturdy.

Size: 7 1/4 inches tall x 7 inches from spout to handle (18.4 x 17.7 cm)
