Large 38" x 32" oil painting, signed J. Cunningham on the front and John Cunningham, Carmel (California) on the back.

Very Van Gogh style in terms of the impressionistic abstract style and the thick palette knife work. Painted on masonite board, probably 1950s to 1970s.

John Cunningham (1904-2004) was a well-known artist of the Carmel and Monterey area of California, where he moved before 1940.

Now he is one of many 20th century California artists whose work is finally coming into its own.

The frame is very nice, too. It's gilded wood, with textured ripples on the all four sides and stylistic floral designs in each corner. It has some minor gesso chips and gilt loss.

Great color and balance, a cheerful but not cloying yellow explosion of texture and line. This piece would command attention and appreciation in any room, from dining room to office to foyer.

It's going to be a super addition to your decor project!
