OUR STORY
"I can't pee on Ernie's face, Mommy. He be sad!"
When my daughter told me that after I made her a pair of these Sesame Street themed training pants, I knew that I'd made a step in the right direction of potty training! Of course, after our success with Ernie, I knew I needed lots of his friends, including Kermit the Frog :-D

These training pants really began before Ernie's face, though. After searching through lots of different training pants online, I didn't find any that suited our specific needs so I made these. They're not like disposable Pull-ups or the cloth versions in that they don't feel like a diaper and/or aren't completely waterproof, but they're not simply thick underwear either. With these trainers, my daughter is immediately aware that she peed herself because the cotton inside feels wet against her skin, and also because the moisture gently seeps through to her pants. This was the happy medium I wanted. Something between totally absorbent/waterproof and non-waterproof/non-absorbent. I wanted something that messed her clothes enough that she was uncomfortable, but that didn't leave messes around my house. There's enough absorbency inside the trainers that I don't get puddles in her high chair or on the floor, and sometimes I can't even tell she's peed herself because it doesn't seep through to her clothes at all! That is exactly what we needed. A step between absolutely waterproof cloth trainers, and non-absorbent, or barely absorbent underpants.

MATERIALS/CONSTRUCTION
The outside of these trainers is made of blizzard fleece--a material often used for cloth diaper covers because of its water-resistant properties. On the butt, I've appliquéd Kermit's face. (This is not a Sesame Workshop licensed product). Hopefully, your toddler--like mine--will be motivated not to pee on Kermit's face just like my daughter is! An absorbent pad, made of 8 layers of upcycled, cotton T shirts, that is sewn into the pants.

FOSTERING INDEPENDENCE
I like these trainers not only for their semi-absorbent/semi-waterproof qualities, but also because they're very easy for small, learning hands to put on and take off. The face clearly denotes the back of the trainers, and it's gently elastic and easy to slip on and off. Ultimately, our daughter was able to potty train in about a month with the aid of these trainers. Now, when she has an accident, she's immediately aware of what has happened, and sometimes takes care of it herself--discarding her soiled underwear and pants, and replacing them with new ones. Mostly, however, accidents that happen are announced to us and she follows this announcement by going and sitting on the potty--better late than never, right?
