Fabulous Iron Ball Finial circa 1890. I have had this in my collection for over 20 years. I can remember the day I discovered it, when an old estate was being torn down. There was a pile of debris and a family member knew I had crazy passion for architectural artifacts. I began weeding through what was left over after all the salvage, scrappers and antique dealers left. Here she was, a beautiful chipped iron finial, found at the bottom of a pile of debris, from the garden on the estate. And it was all mine! Yahoo..........

I wish I had a camera back then, I am sure the expression on my face was "shock and awe". The over whelming power of being at the right place at the right time.

This iron finial stands 8 1/2" high. I took a measuring tape and wrapped it around the middle of the ball and it measures 13". The base is all in steps as seen in the photos, the base measured 5" in diameter when I turned it over. It weights nine pounds. She stands as one solid piece with all the appropriate rust details, chipping paint and bathed in great history.

The uses for this are too numerous to list, garden ornamentation, coffee table conversation piece, or quietly resting in your book case. We are all passing through this life, but these natural elements were here before we were born and will be here when we pass on.

I love this piece but would like to pass on it's beauty, history and essence to another architectural aficionado.

I am ready for my next adventure Dr. Who!
