Bicentennial Ball Quart (7.5 inches tall) Blue Ideal Jar circa 1970's

New/Never used. Obtained from an estate sale. All original paperwork, glass (with lid), and rubber ring included. All original working hardware. Some rust is to be expected. As each piece is individual, the piece you receive may or may not have a "drip line" in the glass.

"The history of the Ball Ideal Jar

The five Ball brothers had been making fruit jars for nearly 30 years when the first Ideal jar was made in 1915 in Muncie, Indiana. It was machine-made instead of blown and went through only minor changes over the many years. Our Bicentennial IDEAL is a replica of one produced between 1930 and 1962 with the addition of an embossed American eagle.

The most common color of glass, due to the iron in the sand used to make glass is green. The discovery that less oxygen in the fire caused glass to turn blue-green or blue is became one of the most jealously guarded color-control "secrets" of early glass makers. Though IDEAL jars were also made of clear "flint" glass, the Ball blue is much sought after by collectors. The Ball blue so familiar decades ago... is the new triumph of glass maker craftsmanship, the Ball Bicentennial jar."
