Happy Birthday to you,
here's a cover for you,
from the Scientific American
on the day you were born.

A great present for someone born or celebrating an anniversary or other special event on August 3 -- or for a history buff.

This is the original cover from August 10, 1918 issue of the Scientific American, featuring a painting by Ernest Hamlin Baker, showing "a hand-operated siren used as air-raid warning in small French communities". Printed in New York by Munn & Co.

A "Notice to Readers" at the top right provides poignant historical context. "When you finish reading this magazine, place a one cent stamp on this notice, mail the magazine, and it will be placed in the hands of our soldiers or sailors destined to proceed overseas."

The full print is shown in the first photo. Other photos show details from the print.

There is a bit of creasing due to the binding, and a fold in the middle of the page, but these are not obtrusive and the cover will look great matted and framed. Any small tears along the borders have been repaired with archival mending tissue.

In very good condition; with printing on the reverse.
