An antique true homespun wool in basic oatmeal shade brown rather primitive country young boy's work or everyday shirt c 1880 or so, it looks earlier but is primarily sewn with a machine with hand sewn details and the buttons are Victorian, the fabric of course could have been woven much earlier and recycled like most everything was here in rural Maine, The size is 12 inches overall length, 9 inches at underarm seams and 10 1/2 inches across the shoulders, maybe a 3 years old size? front has inside snap closures and terrific little 1/2" wide Victorian mottled brown glass loaf shaped buttons, pearl buttons around the bottom of the shirt where they would button into the boy's trousers, the bottom edge is unfinished, it has old repairs and stitches, it was probably remade several times for different children, the fabric has thin spots and some small old holes in the wool but is still all intact and great for display.
This is just a love it as it is piece of antique clothing, it talks to you and has lots of stories to tell if you care to listen.
