1800s garnet locket tin type photo rare red pressed glass antique
A victorian garnet red pressed glass locket with gold fill chain and tintype. The locket and bail are made of semi-transparent pressed dark red garnet colored glass in a star flower pattern with gold metallic highlights. This may be old bohemian glass where actual garnet dust was added when making the glass. The back of the locket has transparent clear oval glass hinged lid with secure snap closure. It contains the original hand tinted tintype of a young man.The name of Tab Prior is written by hand in pencil on the back side of tintype. The bail has a large loop for chain or ribbon. The locket hangs from a gold filled neck chain with old style spring ring clasp.
This is an early style of construction, the glass lid is not a perfect fit inside the oval opening, but its not loose. The locket dates early to mid 1800s
