The dark expanse of a rail yard is no place for an ordinary flashlight—especially when it’s your job root out splintered tracks, malevolent drifters, and other hidden dangers before they turn deadly. Since its foundation in 1889, Star Headlight and Lantern Co. designed its inspector’s lanterns with such hazards in mind, and a singular purpose: To turn night into day. Polished brass and ornate flourishes were for conductor’s lights. The inspector’s models—like these mid-century 9V 500C lanterns—were perfectly utilitarian. A wooden handle makes for easy portability, a wide reflector projects a powerful, unshadowed beam, and a non-tip, adjustable base turns the lantern into a free-standing spotlight, keeping your hands free for more important tasks—like setting up a tent, cleaning out a garage, or tackling anything that goes bump in the night. This flashlight is in nearly perfect working condition, it just needs a 6v battery (not included).
