"The goddess of horses- Eponaf"

Goddess Epona

Epona was the Celtic Horse Goddess whose worship spread to Britain and Rome from Western Europe.
The Roman cavalry had shrines dedicated to her. In fact she was so popular that a temple dedicated to her in Rome.

Her name means "Divine mare" in Gaulish.

An intricately detailed scrimshaw pendant engraved with an original design by Rachel Badeau.

It is hand engraved using a special engraving tool which she has made and sharpened to the finest point.
This piece was created by using the very time consuming techniques of crosshatching and stippling in many overlapping layers to gradually render the image.
Stippling refers to the process of piercing hundreds of pin pint holes in the ivory to hold the ink, providing the ultimate in detail!

It is signed on the back and embellished with a tiny moon and star.

It comes on a black continuous cord which is adjustable in length by sliding the sterling silver coils.

This pendant is made of a very nice piece of mammoth ivory which is at least 10,000 years old- my favorite material to work on!

size: approx.
1 " wide x 1 5/8" long.

This piece is an original one of a kind.

My work has been sold in galleries and stores across the United States , Canada and Europe.
