British-made cotton dish towel commemorates The Battle of Britain between Germany and Great Britain which took place between July and October, 1940.

Size: 29-3/4 x 20-1/4 inches

CONDITION: excellent unused condition with no issues to note

The Battle of Britain was the first major English campaign to be fought entirely by air forces and was named thusly from one of Winston Churchill's speeches in which he said the Battle of France was over and the Battle of Britain was about to begin. This unused towel depicts a map of Great Britain divided into the airspace groups with a Royal Air Force Fighter Command key showing the location of the command bases and which fighter planes were assigned to the various bases. Flying in the air high above are shown the main fighters, the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire; the light bomber Bristol Blenheim; the biplane fighter Gloster Gladiator; and the Boulton Paul Defiant which was a more effective night fighter and shot down more enemy aircraft than any other type of fighter. Also shown is the RAF insignia and quote from Winston Churchill, "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."
