This 45-inch wide, 21-inch long/high lovely and very rare piece of vintage mid-century 1950s barkcloth is a reproduction of Grandma Moses painting "Williamstown," created in a monochrome neutral toile. Originally painted in shades of brown and green, the painting was reproduced in several barkcloths, including one in full color and at least two toiles. While the full color version is fairly common and easy to find, the toile fabrics are very rare. In my many years of collecting vintage and antique fabrics, I have only found each toile once. This particular toile evokes a lovely winter feeling on account of the many shades of black and brown. The black ranges from dark to light gray, and the brown ranges from a deep umber to a pretty taupe. The range of shades creates a sepia effect that is both vintage and modern. This fabric has a fine pebbly texture and is mid-weight barkcloth.

Please click and Zoom on the second photo to see the exact and entire piece included in this listing. There are two full repeats horizontally, and the vertical repeat is a little more than a complete design, so the piece will make two large pillows or many small projects. This fabric was never used and is in pristine condition. I have laundered and ironed it so it is ready for your creations. Both selvages are included. The standard Riverdale markings are on the left selvage (Riverdale produced most of the Grandma Moses barkcloth fabrics). The right selvage markings ran off the edge but would have identified this as an authorized reproduction of Williamstown Toile, as do the selvages of a green Williamstown Toile that I have listed separately.

Moses designs are wonderful to use for so many projects - pillows, totes, and sachets, to name just a few. For more information about Grandma Moses, a fascinating woman whose paintings are so lovely and unique, visit this link:
