Simple, clean, and feminine: genuine dark navy blue sapphires are centered with a large clear faceted crystal, accented with navy crystals and gold vermeil.

This necklace uses genuine sapphires, in a subtle denim blue shade. I think it is the color of these stones coupled with the simplicity of design that make this necklace so versatile - a complement to a casual outfit, an understated but beautiful accent to a business suite, but with enough sparkle to wear for an evening out. The center bead is a large (12mm) faceted German crystal. There is very interesting helix faceting that swirls around the crystal bead. On either side are crystal rondelles and dark blue Swarovski crystals. The necklace is 17 1/2" long and closes with a gold-filled lobster clasp.

This necklace would be the perfect accessory at a summer wedding, a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner.

History/Background
Since medieval times, sapphire has been associated with the majesty and tranquility of the heavens. It was thought to dispel evil thoughts and to bring peace and amiability to its wearer. The stone is associated with Abraham in the Judeo-Christian tradition. The name sapphire comes from the Greek (for blue), and as late as the Middle Ages, the word applied to lapis lazuli.
Metaphysical/Healing Properties
From Antiquity, gemstones have been thought to possess mysterious powers. Sapphire is said to enhance creativity and to focus purity of thought. It is known as the stone of new love and commitment and is claimed to be useful in encouraging faithfulness and loyalty. Because of its blue color, it is associated with the throat and brow chakras - where energy imbalances are said to cause sore throats, headaches and nightmares.

Frequently asked questions about ShopPretties

In many cases, the length of a necklace, bracelet or even dangle earrings can be changed to suit your needs. If the change is minor there would be no charge for this service. However, if a piece would need to be restrung or a significant change in materials would be required, a charge may be necessary. I handle this on an individual basis and would advise you if necessary so that you can approve of any additional charge.
I enjoy modifying an existing design, or creating an entirely new design for my customers. You may request a custom order by using the "custom order" button from my shop, or you can begin the process by contacting me via Etsy convo.

Please be aware that this can sometimes be a process that can take several days or even several weeks to complete, as we discuss details and materials for the design and you are provided photos to approve. Plan accordingly, especially if the jewelry piece is to be worn on a specific date.

If a design will require me to purchase special supplies or materials, you will need to pay a NON refundable deposit to cover the cost of these supplies or materials.
I package all jewelry in a gift box, with cotton cushioning and tissue paper on the inside, and ribbon and decorative seal on the outside. I have gift card inserts available, at no charge. If you wish me to include a gift card insert, simply indicate the message to be used in the "comments" section at check out.
Magnetic clasps: To open, gently insert the tip of your fingernail between the two halves of the clasp to break the magnetic seal, then slide apart. Please do not attempt to pull a magnetic clasp apart as this will result in damage to the piece.

Sterling silver and gold vermeil: Both of these materials can tarnish over time. Please use a soft anti-tarnish cloth as needed. To help prevent tarnishing, store in a closed box or zip-lock baggie (this protects the piece from the air).
In order to qualify as gold vermeil and not gold-plated silver, a piece of jewelry must meet strict requirements. The base must be pure sterling silver or fine silver. It may not be coated with any other metal prior to having the layer of gold applied. Finally, the gold layer with which the silver is plated must be at least 10-karat gold, and the layer must be at least two and one-half microns in thickness - significantly thicker than gold plated or gold filled metal.

If I know the karat value of the gold plating, I will specify this in my listing - ie, 24k gold over sterling silver.
Some of the components I use are made of fine silver. This is generally true of charms and other components that are made by the Karen Hill Tribes of Thailand.

Technically, fine silver is "pure" silver - .999 (99.9%) silver content with only a trace of other metals to form the alloy. Fine silver used in most jewelry making has a silver content of .965 (96.5%). Sterling silver has a silver content of .925 (92.5%).
