ITEM DESCRIPTION: This gracious vase is made in a classic Art Nouveau shape and features a harmonious glaze of deep brown-burgundy accented with kelly green and soft butter drips; the combination lends the colors a soft iridescence. Its silhouette suggests the shape of tulip, and it is lovely with or without flowers.

DECOR STORY: Drip glazes have been popular in Belgium for over a century and have been used on all manner of ceramics, much of which reflects a handmade, earthy sensibility (in contrast to other styles like French porcelsilhouettesain which is often very finely detailed and delicate). Often employing a rough earthenware, they favor elegant forms and somewhat feminine shapes.

CONDITION: Very Good, with no apparent chips, cracks or crazing. Marked on the bottom. In picture four you can see that there is a small ceramic bump on one side with a corresponding glaze skip and a tiny glaze pop—which are very common in glazed earthenware pieces like these.

SIZE: 3.25” in diameter by 8” high

CIRCA: 1890s-1900s

SHIPPING: Because this item is breakable, the shipping costs automatically include insurance.
