All of my nets are made by hand, one at a time, in my shop in the heart of The Driftless, in southwest Wisconsin. Each net is unlike any other, and special time goes into the sanding of the handles, to give you a natural and effective grip that feels good in the hand.

Mexican bocote and bark pocket red oak combine to give this net a ruddy, rustic look. It is a large net with a big bag that is suitable for very large trout, steelhead, and salmon. The short handle enables it to be carried on the back of the fishing vest. Bark pocket wood is quite rare, and is created when sapwood grows around bark. The result is similar to birds eye maple, but instead of the birds eyes, you get little eyes of bark. My wood guy, Floyd, tells me that he's lucky to find 1 red oak in 1,000 that has bark pockets.

12" by 18" hoop
25" overall length
finish: Tung oil
handle: bark pocket red oak
hoop: cherry/bocote/hickory/bocote

You can see additional pictures of this net and many other nets on my page at Smugmug:
