This is a tutorial that I made on how to make gumpaste hydrangeas for cake decorating. There are four different ways to make them that are included, and it also includes a section on how to wire gumpaste flowers and a list of supplies and sources.

Your tutorial purchase includes the ability to join my facebook group to post questions and have me answer them for you. This will give you access to more information in case you need further instruction after reading the tutorial itself. The link to the group will be sent when you get the receipt for your purchase.

Real hydrangea are poisonous and also wilt very quickly, so making gumpaste ones are better if you're using them to decorate a cake. Using this tutorial will give you several ways to make them, from less realistic to more realistic depending on what you need them for.

This is a PDF file and can be downloaded directly from Etsy once your payment clears.

An FYI-- It uses a flower center press that I sell in my shop. This is an optional item, but it makes a nice flower center and makes it easy to do. https://www.etsy.com/listing/70251228/gumpaste-flower-center-press-for-small

You might also want to get an all-purpose silicone petal veiner, which comes in handy for making the veins on the most detailed version. https://www.etsy.com/listing/95497779/all-purpose-silicone-mold-for-gumpaste

Frequently asked questions about ACakeToRemember

I accept custom orders if you contact me ahead of time to confirm that I can do them. I can't match colors exactly but can get them pretty close (except for purple, that's a tricky one in food colors.)
I don't do anything overnight delivery. I might be able to do priority express in the U.S. (one to two day delivery) for certain items, but it's expensive and I don't guarantee delivery times since that's out of my control. If you need something fast please contact me before placing the order, or I may have to cancel if I can't fill it within the time frame you need it.
Gumpaste will last for months if it's stored correctly, but I'd order flowers for weddings or gumpaste succulents about a month ahead of time. Wafer paper butterflies are good for a year or more if they're kept dry and out of sunlight to avoid fading.

All gumpaste should be opened CAREFULLY and stored in a dry area at room temperature. Don't refrigerate gumpaste, wafer paper or sugar sea glass, moisture is the enemy of sugar and starches, and can soften these items and ruin them.
Because sugar attracts moisture, and customs warehouses are apparently humid, I've had some gumpaste and fondant items ruined while they sat in customs. Because of this I don't ship certain flowers or pearls outside the US.
It depends. I need to have an actual item to use to make a mold, so I can't make one from a picture of a piece of lace, for example. But if you have something that you're willing to send to me I might be able to create a mold from it. I usually can't make a larger or smaller version of molds that I already have listed (again, I need an original to make a mold from).
If you have a picture, I can help you figure out what you need to buy. I do need to know the sizes of the cake tiers, since the amount of flowers or other decorations needed will depend on how big the cake is going to be.
I ship packages Monday through Saturday, since there's no mail on Sunday.

Edible butterflies, wafer paper, supplies, and silicone molds can usually be shipped the first business day after the order is placed.

Paper flowers can be shipped two to three days after the order is placed.

Fondant and gumpaste orders vary since I have to make them and they need time to dry before they're ready to be shipped safely. I can generally get them in the mail three to five days after ordering, but it might take longer for larger orders. Feel free to convo me with questions about specific items.
NO!!! I'm not a VAT registered business because I'm in the US. Any VAT or import fees that are imposed will be charged when you receive the package, not when you pay for the item. I do NOT include taxes in my prices, and the only tax I collect is the sales tax for the state of Virginia, which I do remit to the state tax department on a quarterly basis.
