This is a glicee print of Old Main Dormatory at Mississippi State University. It is one of seven in the collection of prints that illustrates the historical and traditional places/buildings/things of Mississippi State Uinversity. Each print has the name of the place/building/thing along with a description.

I created these original illustrations in 2006 as a student at Mississippi State University.

Text under title reads:
Old Main was one of the first buildings constructed on the campus of The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi, now our beloved Mississippi State University. The first section of the “Main Dormitory” was built in 1880, but many other sections were added on until its completion in 1922. At one time, Old Main was the largest residence hall in the United States, housing more than 1,100 students. The massive building decorated an entire side of the Drill Field. It stood from what is now the front entrance to McCool Hall all the way down, covering the entire site of what is now the Colvard Student Union. Many MSU alumni have great memories of Old Main. Stories of water slides and the infamous “polecat alley” still ring in the ears of Bulldog students today. Unfortunately, on January 22, 1959, Old Main was destroyed by a fire. The fire claimed the life of only one of the 1,100 Old Main residents. Some of the bricks that were saved from the burning of the nation’s largest residence hall were used to build what is now the Chapel of Memories. Old Main is truly a part of our university’s rich history and tradition, and it is much more than a building to our Bulldog Family. Old Main lives on today in the hearts of past and present MSU Bulldogs.

The print is from an original watercolor and pencil illustration done by me. They are printed on 11 x 17 inch archival paper using archival inks.
