A rare subject of sculpture: the opossum.

This is an awesome little fellow. His head and face are the emphasis of the piece and are a bit oversized (as compared to the body). Very endearing. His black eyes are glazed and have depth.

The sculpture is made of pale terra cotta pottery. It is matte and very textural. The body almost seems like that of an armadillo. (It could be an armadillo, I suppose.)

This piece was made by Dane Burr. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art in the late 1940s. This piece was most likely created in the 1960s or 1970s.

The figure is approximately 2 1/8" tall, 5 1/2" long and 2 1/2" wide (ear to ear). It is hand signed on the bottom in black: Dane.

The sculpture is in excellent condition. There are no apparent flaws.

Truly special.
