After hanging our new feeder, our hummingbird regulars appeared within minutes. They hovered above the tube, interested but not feeding. They continued to inspect until my husband had the idea to cut tiny squares of yellow electrical tape and punch little holes in each piece. He taped the squares over several holes on the tube- as soon as he came back into the house, a hummingbird was back and drinking from the feeder. Once the holes in the tube were obvious to hummingbirds, it was easy for them to feed. Given more time to learn the new feeder, I feel sure the hummingbirds would have found the holes without the yellow tape. Ants are a problem- trying to figure that out. Overall, it’s a great feeder. It may help if the holes on the tube had some type of bright yellow indicator around them.
