Proclaim your passion for plaid in this vintage quilted handbag circa 1950's-60's. It was manufactured by Margaret Smith in Gardiner, Maine who in the 1940's started making beach bags as a hobby. This eventually led her to creating the Margaret Smith Company specializing in high quality totes in bird and floral like prints. She soon turned into one of the top handbag distributors of New England and was known as the "Kate Spade" of her day. As you can see from this purse, it certainly fits the bill. It is rare to find a plaid bag in such vivid colors. In striking hues of scarlet red, navy blue, and ivory, this purse packs a punch to your most simplest of outfits. Aside from a carry-on, it is also the perfect accent to any room looking for a pop of color and a dose of retro rarity. The exterior of the bag is a quilted cotton yarn while the blue zippered front pouch and handles are a pleather like material. If you open the purse via the button snap closure, you will find a dark blue nylon interior with a Margaret Smith approved label. The condition of this structured bag is excellent both inside and out. The only wear being a few tiny unnoticeable speckles of white paint by the zipper. It's clearly a purse that has been admired but not used very often, and given the fact that the Margaret Smith Co. closed up shop in 2008, who wouldn't want to preserve the livelihood of this gem?
