Original, beautifully detailed antique engraving of the Roman Forum on the Capitoline Hill.

This 19th century book illustration depicts the Roman Forum on the Capitoline Hill, with the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the Temple of Juno Moneta, the Basilica Julia, the Temple of Juppiter Tonans, the Tabularium, the Temple of Saturn, the Temple of Vespasian and Titus, the Temple of Concord, the Mamertine Prison or Carcere Mamertino, the triumphal arch of Tiberius, the Milliarium Aureum "golden milestone", the colossal statue of Domitian, and the rostra of the Temple of Caesar.

The reverse side is also printed, shows the Appian Way of the Ancient Rome, the classical order of columns and capitals (the Doric order, the Ionic order and the Corinthian order), statues and ornaments.

The size of the print (in inches): 12" x 9,6" (30,5 x 24,5 cm)
Printed in Stuttgart, 1888 for the 7th edition of Pierers Konversations-Lexikon.

The print is in good condition, the paper shows its age with creamy patina, perfect for framing.

Concerning the age of the paper - cca. 120 years - some spots can be occured on the margin and the reverse side, but these do not effect the quality of the print itself as it can be seen on the scan.

Please note, that by antique prints due to their age some imperfections are to be expected.
