Please note:

The rings in the photos have been sold. This listing is for a one-of-a-kind, custom-made opal ring. The opal is in the two final photos. As this is a custom listing, please see my shop announcement for my current production time.

This ring will be built around a 11 x 7mm oval shaped solid semi-black opal (please see final two photos). The opal is a fantastic play of green and blue, with some slightly pink undertones and shimmers from all angles. The colour play is very strong, and varies in hue according to the type of light you view them in. The photos of this opal were taken outside in strong sunlight. Opals are very difficult to properly photograph, but my opal collection was chosen for their strong, consistent colourplay and gorgeous appearance. I chose my opals from an opal dealer in Australia- they are from Lightning Ridge, where the world's best black opals are mined and cut.

If you prefer the darker green/blue opals used in the ring photos, please get in touch- my opal dealer has a very large selection of all size and colour of black opals.

The ring is made from recycled gold- the bezel wall and band are 18k, while the bezel platform is 10k. On the ring in the photos, the bezel has been given a brushed texture with a high-shine lip, while the band is hammered and polished. I can also build this ring from 18k white gold, and can give it any finish you like.

Photos of custom pieces are always sent for approval prior to shipping.

Shipping is by Purolator Overnight (to the USA) or Purolator Express (3-5 days internationally), with $100 of insurance and a tracking number. If you wish to have your ring fully insured, please get in touch for an estimate on the insurance. The ring will be moving with a reputable courier, and must be signed for on your end, so is quite safe. However, I cannot replace nor refund should the ring somehow become lost or damaged. So, I will leave the insurance decision up to you.

Frequently asked questions about Specimental

I am always open to hearing your design ideas. Please contact me through the shop, or at treloar@telus.net to discuss design possibilities.
If you are unsure of your ring size, the best way to be sized accurately is by visiting two commercial jewelers. Please ensure they size you using their thin sizing tools- not the wide band sizing tools, nor by having you try on rings from their display.

If any questions arise around being properly sized, I am always happy to help- contact me through the shop, or at treloar@telus.net
All of my pieces come ready to present as gifts, in attractive foil stamped jewelry boxes, enclosed in a lovely Chinese faux silk gift bag.

If the person for whom you are purchasing the piece shares your address, please be aware of the following: International export law dictates that the detailed contents of packages, and their value, be clearly marked on the outside of the package. This means that if they see the package before you do, they can easily tell what they are being gifted with.

I am happy to ship to your workplace, a friend, or a relative, when secrecy is necessary. The very best option is to have your package held for you at your closest Fed Ex store- if you are unsure of its location, I'm happy to help.
At this time, I do not sell wholesale, nor do I place my pieces on commission.
My gold is all recycled- the metal plant I purchase it from has been in business for over 100 years. They smelt their metals to the highest environmental standards, to cause the least impact on the environment. They do not deal with newly mined metals, as these metals cause much greater destruction to the environment.

There is no visible difference between recycled metals and newly-mined metals. There is also no difference as far as the karat of the metals go- 18k recycled gold is exactly the same in constitution as 18k newly mined gold. The vast majority of my clients prefer their metals recycled, as environmental impact is of concern when choosing the perfect piece of jewelry.
No, I cannot. I am not set up to smelt gold in the studio, so am not able to melt down your old gold pieces for you.
I can use your heirloom stones in a new design. The stones must be pulled from their settings and checked for stability by a professional jeweler prior to shipping them to me.
My current production times are listed in my shop announcement. If you need something more quickly, please get in touch via the shop, or at treloar@telus.net

Depending upon my work and family schedule, I am happy to accommodate your rush orders. There is no additional charge for a rush order. However, please do get in touch prior to ordering to discuss your deadline with me.
Yes! All of my pieces are completely hand fabricated in the studio by me, from raw materials. I am able to create any of my designs with any stone, in any composition. In short, you can have your ring absolutely any way you like it. Contact me through the shop, or via treloar@telus.net to get the discussion around your perfect piece of jewelry started.
